City of Steamboat Springs – Furthering Climate Action: Code Updates, Community Outreach, & Plan Integration
Fellow Bio
Originally having dreams of working in sports management for one of his beloved Philadelphia sports teams, Mark gained an interest in pursuing a sustainability career thanks to an undergrad minor in Geography and a study abroad opportunity to Denmark. The trip opened his eyes to the effectiveness of smart urban planning in addressing a number of climate and health related problems. Since completing his undergrad in 2015, he has worked in a number of sustainability-adjacent roles as a youth bike educator, program manager, and environmental career pathway coordinator with non-profits in Colorado. Mark is joining CivicSpark to facilitate a career shift into the urban planning field and to test the waters before applying to grad school. This year, he will be working with the City of Steamboat Springs’ Planning department on the implementation of Routt County’s climate action plan into city codes and programs – including reducing transportation emissions, and waste management/reduction. In his free time, Mark can be found playing around and frequently falling down in Colorado’s mountains on skis, bikes, and feet or curled up on the couch with a hot drink and a good book.
