Fellow Bio
Melissa graduated from San Diego State University with a BS in Biology. Upon graduating she worked for the University of Georgia Marine Extension as an Education Fellow, where she led coastal education and outreach efforts. After, she served as an AmeriCorps New Jersey Watershed Ambassador for two terms and served as a team leader during her second term. As a Watershed Ambassador she led environmental community projects, taught environmental education at Title 1 schools, and monitored stream health by completing field surveys for the Department of Environmental Protection. As a southern San Diego native, Melissa was looking forward to returning home after three years and continue her passion for environmental resiliency. She is excited to be working with the Port of San Diego to better prepare San Diego’s coastal communities for the impacts of climate change.
