Melanie Chu is the Climate Change Project Coordinator for the CivicSpark AmeriCorps Fellowship, which is a Governor’s Initiative AmeriCorps program that aims to tackle climate change and water resource management issues through local government programs and community engagement throughout California.
Prior to LGC, Melanie was a CivicSpark fellow for the 2014-15 service year in the Sacramento Region. She worked closely with the Sacramento Council of Governments (SACOG) to produce a Climate Transportation Adaptation Plan, which was adopted into the Metropolitan Transportation Plan/Sustainable Communities Strategy (MTP/SCS) Update for the 2016 fiscal year. The Climate Adaptation Plan addresses the potential climate impacts, transportation vulnerabilities, and possible policy suggestions that aims to increase stakeholder support and adaptive capacity of the transportation network within the 6-county jurisdiction. After her service year, she embarked on a 6.5-month backpacking trip through Southeast Asia.
Melanie received her Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies at University of California, Berkeley in 2013.
