Nature-based Solutions Climate Resilient Landscapes Projects

Organization: City of Boulder, Nature-based Solutions, Climate Initiatives
Openings: #1
Work Schedule: Hybrid, 3 days in office (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)
Project Description:

The Nature-based Solutions Climate Resilient Landscapes Projects provides research, coordination, design support, community engagement, and implementation support across multiple 2026–2027 climate resilient landscape initiatives, including:

  • Green Infrastructure Policy Evaluation and Resilient Landscape Planning & Pilot Projects.
  • Boulder Valley School District Resilient Schoolyard Pilots and Climate Literate Elementary School Assessment (with Growing Up Boulder).
  • Climate Resilient Landscapes Showcase and Contractor Workforce Training Program.

These projects stem from the Waterwise and Firewise ordinance change priorities outlined by the Boulder City Council starting in 2024. In 2026, we completed the ordinance changes and have now been tasked with community outreach to increase awareness of climate-resilient landscape policy and practices, analysis of ongoing initiatives to evaluate if they are meeting our climate goals – protecting our city and community from heat, drought, fire, flood, and bio-diversity loss, and creating initiatives that support these goals proactively through non-regulatory means. The Fellow will contribute to the organizational capacity of our young department as it expands into this work.

These initiatives serve:

  • The City of Boulder Community
  • The Boulder Valley School District
  • Community Partners
