Bill Sadler, J.D., M.U.R.P., has been the executive director of the CivicSpark fellowship since September 2022. Bill has 20+ years of leadership & management experience with nonprofit organizations, government agencies and cross-sector coalitions across the U.S. His primary focus has been on creating and implementing programs, policies and strategies in the environmental, transportation, economic resilience and public health sectors. Leading CivicSpark has been the most fulfilling role of his career, as it brings together many of the issues, passions and experiences that have been a common thread throughout his career. Before joining CivicSpark, Bill was Director of Operations at a Public Health Institute program focused on supporting local health departments in Southern California. Bill has also worked for several other environmentally focused nonprofits (Safe Routes to School National Partnership, Natural Resources Defense Council and Reconnecting America) where he has worn many hats including program management and administration, operations, personnel management, policy, communications, strategic planning, finance, contracting, budgeting, fundraising and development, research and technical assistance. Bill prides himself on having knowledge of a wide variety of subject matter and topics, and being adaptable and quick to learn new things, including the universe of AmeriCorps when he took on this role.
Bill holds a law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School, a master’s degree in urban planning from the University of Colorado Denver, and a bachelor’s degree in economics and communications from Boston College. Bill resides in Los Angeles with his husband and dog, and spends his free time long distance running, taking long walks on the beach and listening to 80s and 90s music.
