Oh the Places You’ll Go!

July Great Story by Savannah Rose, 2017-18 Greater Los Angeles Climate Fellow

This service year is wrapping up to a close and with a new chapter ready to begin. This year has gone far beyond my expectations of what an AmeriCorps position could provide. My past supervisor at my University told me that she loved being an AmeriCorps member, even though the pay wasn’t high. I always knew my career path would not include the highest salary, but instead rewarded for the betterment of the surrounding environment. I never knew that would make so many meaningful connections with the Fellows around Greater LA or the State. The program taught me so much about myself and my ability to work in a team. Sports and college group projects were great in all, but nothing compares to working on a project that is all your own.

Graduation was bittersweet, seeing the people that had garnered so much support during these last eleven months.
We made so many memories in such a short time together. From kayaking and paddleboarding to hanging out around Sacramento, I cherished every moment.

I look forward to keeping in touch with this network of amazing people. As I make major life moves and pack up my bags for Sacramento, I remember my roots and the people that have helped me become the person that I am and the person that I want to be. I am so excited, nervous, and terrified for my new position with the Local Government Commission as a Regional Coordinator for the next service year. While I love my LEED-certified building at the Wilshire Grand, I’m looking forward to the urban forestry of Sacramento.

This is Savannah Rose here, signing off!
