Hybrid – The City of Beverly Hills’ hybrid schedule will require the Fellow to work on-site twice a week. The City recognizes the importance of having the Fellow experience a social working environment and develop relationships and professional rapport with other employees in the City.
Service Needs & PlansDeveloping an extensive water conservation will expand the City of Beverly Hill’s ability to reduce water consumption by developing policy framework, water conservation audit program and water conservation incentive and resource program. The program expansion will help convince water customers to invest on equipment and irrigation best practices to reduce water consumption.
Implement outreach and subscription requirements for Tier I & II Commercial Food Generators and assist in developing and monitoring the Food Recovery Program.
Project DescriptionProject 1 Goal: To expand the City’s water conservation program by establishing policy framework and best management practices (BMPs) for residential, commercial and industrial customers.
Roles of the Fellow: Fellow will be assisting the Sustainability Analyst and Administrator in developing policy framework, BMPs for customers, incentive and resources page for residents and project developers. Fellow will assist in developing water budgets for water customers.
Desired outcome: Fellow is expected to formalize water conservation policies and programs. Programs development will include research and understanding of regulations, analyses of regulations, developing a manual for water conservation audit & incentive program, and public outreach program.
Impact: Expanding the water conservation program enhances the City’s ability to further reduce water consumption, reduce GHG emissions by reducing imported water for Beverly Hills and increases the City’s resiliency through increase water supply through water conservation reduction.
Project 2 Goal: Develop the City’s Tier I & II Commercial Food Generators database and contact them for requirements.
Role of the Fellow: The Fellow will also be researching Food Recovery Organizations to coordinate the organization’s efforts with the City’s Commercial Food Generators to comply with Senate Bill 1838.
Desired outcome: The program development will enhance the City’s Food Recovery Program by encouraging other commercial food generators not required by state legislature to donate. Developing the system will also help the City’s operations submit state-required reports and provide updates to the City Council and various City Commissions.
Desired SkillsThe City of Beverly Hills is looking for an enthusiastic Fellow with a definite skill in data analysis and an effective communicator. The City also prefers a Fellow that has project management skills and works independently yet works effectively in a team setting of professional Public Works employees. The prospective Fellow will be tasked in analyzing water consumption and solid waste data that will help the City develop policies and programs to continue a world-class service.
