Service Needs & Plans

Support the Transportation Division of the Beverly Hills Public Works Department to implement the City’s Complete Streets Plan, including development of a Mobility Education and Encouragement Program that will teach residents of all ages and backgrounds how to travel safely, encourage choosing more sustainable transportation modes, and build support for bicycle and pedestrian projects.

Project Description

The overarching goal of the project is to develop a Mobility Education and Encouragement Program to implement the Complete Streets Plan. This program will include a variety of elements, such as bringing regular safety trainings to Beverly Hills Unified School District students; developing encouragement outreach methods and programs to target specific groups to ensure equitable program access; organizing the first of what is hoped to be an annual bike ride or event for National Bike Month; establishing a Bicycle Friendly Business District; creation of a Safe Routes for Seniors program; etc. The Fellow will be the Program Manager and responsible for developing the program structure, coordinating with City staff and stakeholders to implement program elements such as those previously identified, and researching/brainstorming new ideas to bring to Beverly Hills. The desired outcome is an established program with multiple elements that will be come regular/annual City services. This will help the Transportation Division meet goals in the Complete Streets Plan to become more bicycle, pedestrian, and transit friendly and build a culture that supports sustainable transportation modes.

We are looking for someone passionate about sustainable mobility and highly motivated to set up our program. The ideal candidate is:

-Detail-oriented and organized, as they will likely be responsible for some event planning and logistics
-Goal-oriented and able to identify and act on steps to achieve these goals
-Able to research effectively, analyze information collected, and summarize findings
-A strong communicator, both verbally and in writing
-Honest and humble, including a willingness to be open about what they do not know how to do ask for help when it is needed
-Excited to learn and grow
-Interested in working directly with our community and build relationships with stakeholders from a variety of organizations and backgrounds
