Building Community Resilience Capacity and Creating Job Opportunities across America

For the last 11 years, CivicSpark has helped over 300 communities in California, Washington, and Colorado build community resilience workforce capacity while providing a launchpad for more than 1,000 emerging civic leaders. In 2023, CivicSpark embarked on a national planning process to expand to additional communities, and in late 2024, was awarded funding to implement a national expansion. In 2025, we are focusing on the Western and Southeast United States, with plans for additional expansion in 2026.

Program Design

Fellows spend between 6 to 11 months embedded in government agencies and community organizations, serving between 900 to 1,300 hours implementing a needed sustainability and resilience project, while also building long-term capacity to ensure the work is sustained after their service year. Fellows also develop leadership skills through participating in professional development and community service activities throughout the service year.

Expansion Timeline

  • October 18: 2024: Partner Application opens for March start date
  • January 17, 2025: Application Deadline
  • January-February: Partner & Fellow match process
  • March 10, 2025: Fellows begin work at project sites
