Service Needs & Plans
The City’s Climate Action Plan (CAP) identifies building energy as the second largest contributor of greenhouse gas emissions. To create a more resilient community, City staff will need to 1) create work plans for energy efficiency projects at City-owned facilities and 2) develop a comprehensive outreach strategy that will teach stakeholders about energy-saving habits and retrofits.
Project DescriptionThe City has limited staff capacity to plan for and complete climate related projects, with most staff members splitting time between Climate Action and other community priorities. This split in priorities places a strain on Climate Action Plan implementation, specifically regarding long-term energy efficiency planning. The City needs additional support to ensure that programs outlined in the Climate Action Plan are implemented and that the City is making progress towards energy reduction targets both for the Community and for City-owned facilities.
The Fellow will work on projects that support building energy reductions for City-owned facilities and community education about energy efficiency and reduction for residential and commercial properties. The projects will be critical to the City achieving its Climate Action Plan targets and performance measures and preparing our community for climate resilience.
